About StepGate
StepGate is a small iPhone app with one idea: your feet hold the key to your feed.

Why StepGate exists
Most screen time apps ask you to try harder. Set a limit, then argue with it at 11 PM. The limit loses.
StepGate swaps the argument for a trade. The apps you overuse stay locked until you've walked your steps for the day. Then they open, and you don't think about it again until tomorrow. It ties something you want (the feed) to something you keep meaning to do (the walk), a close cousin of what researchers call temptation bundling. You can read about the research in why earning screen time works better than banning it.
How it's built
- On Apple's own tools. The lock uses Apple's Screen Time framework, and steps come from Apple Health and your iPhone's motion sensor.
- Private by default. No account. Apple's picker means StepGate can't see which apps you lock. The privacy policy lists exactly what is sent.
- Humane on purpose. Rest days, lock hours and short pauses are built in, because a rule you can keep beats one you quit.
Who makes it
StepGate is made by Kush Daga. The guides on this site are written and checked by the StepGate team. Every statistic links to its source, and we check every claim about the app against what the app actually does. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.
