Walking and Screen Time Calculators

Put scrolling and walking in the same unit. Every calculator works out the default answer before you touch it, shows the formula, and links the research behind each number.

The numbers behind them

The calculators share a few assumptions. About 100 steps a minute is the research rule of thumb for moderate-intensity walking, and StepGate uses the same figure to show steps left as a walk. Distance defaults to a 0.762 m (2.5 ft) step, the estimate StepGate uses when Apple Health has no distance. Every page explains where its numbers come from and how far to trust them.
