My apps aren't locking
The lock is on only when all of these are true:
- StepGate has Screen Time access. If it doesn't, StepGate shows a "Screen Time access is off" card with a way to turn it back on.
- At least one app, category or website is picked in the Gates tab.
- You haven't hit today's goal yet.
- Today isn't a rest day, it's inside your lock hours, and no pause is running.
- Motion & Fitness access is on. Without it StepGate can't measure your steps, so it turns the lock off rather than locking you out.
- StepGate Plus is active.
I hit my goal but an app is still locked
Open StepGate. It checks your steps and opens everything straight away. When StepGate is closed, iOS decides when it can check your steps in the background, which can take a while; the lock screen will say "Goal hit! Open StepGate to unlock."
My step count looks wrong
StepGate reads Apple Health and your iPhone's pedometer and uses the higher of the two, so it can briefly run ahead of the Health app during a walk. To see what Health has recorded, open the Health app and look at Steps. Check that StepGate has Health access (Health app, then your profile, then Apps, then StepGate) and Motion & Fitness access (Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Motion & Fitness). Steps from an Apple Watch count through Apple Health.
How do I stop locking an app?
Go to the Gates tab, tap Edit locked apps, and unselect it. You're always in charge of the list.
I need an app for a few minutes
Pause the lock for 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes. It comes back on its own when the pause ends.
I'm sick or travelling
Mark the day as a rest day in the You tab. The lock stays off all day. You can also shorten your lock hours or lower your goal (anything from 3,000 steps).
When do apps lock again?
Your steps start again at midnight, and the lock comes back at the start of your lock hours (6:00 AM unless you change it), even if StepGate is closed.
Subscriptions
Manage or cancel StepGate Plus in Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions. To restore a purchase on a new iPhone, use Restore purchases in the You tab. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
